Ensuring that workers are safe in the workplace has been a vital part of Australian law since the mid 1970’s, with South Australia being the first jurisdiction to introduce what would be recognised as modern workplace safety laws.
These laws were reformed and updated throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s, leading to the national harmonisation of the work health and safety laws through the model Work Health and Safety Act in 2011.
It is the responsibility of every person in a workplace, regardless of their role or other responsibilities, to have an understanding of how to work in a safe manner, maintain your own health and safety and not place others at risk.
Through developing your understanding of the overall requirements of health and safety in the workplace, you will be better prepared to undertake whatever role you are required to perform.
At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Understand their obligations under WHS legislation
- Plan and manage safety in the workplace
- Gain an understanding of operational risks and hazards
- Respond effectively to incidents
- Use resources to eliminate risks
- Understand and respond to psychosocial risks
THINK SAFE – WORK SAFE – BE SAFE
